Coahoma Community College-Division of Health Sciences, Emergency Medical Technology
program, in compliance with our school’s mission statement, seeks to provide new opportunities
to the citizens in the college's service area. Serving as a catalyst for economic
and community development, Coahoma Community College provides accessible, affordable,
diverse, and quality educational opportunities and services that foster a nurturing
teaching and learning environment, promote intellectual and work readiness skills,
support personal and professional growth, and prepare students to enter the job market
or transfer to a college or university. We will maintain a commitment to EMS agencies
and other communities of interest within our service area and will foster an environment
of learning for the purpose of educating pre-hospital professionals in the practice
of basic and advanced EMS care.
It is our goal to prepare entry level paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor
(skills), and affective (behavior, professionalism) learning domains with or without
exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical
Technician and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels. We will maintain this goal by
being consistent with and responsive to the demonstrated needs and expectations of
the communities of interest for whom we serve. We will accomplish this by:
- Using current lecture materials with lesson plans and syllabi that mirror National
EMS Education Standards and the National Registry of EMTs
- Using computer testing software that mirrors National EMS Education Standards and
National Registry of EMTs
- Providing clinical practice using the most current equipment available for practical
application and scenario-based learning.
- Assessing how each student responds to a patients needs to include development of
rapport, as well as working as part of a healthcare team, to include a capstone experience
as team leader in a variety of patient care situations.
